The pharmaceutical company will soon stop marketing Celebrex to the American public and pay down $4.5 billion in a $1.9 billion settlement with the company in the first of six months, a company statement said Monday. The company said it will continue to work with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration to make the company's Celebrex and its other products available as generic drugs, including the two pain relievers Zoloft and Lyrica and Celebrex. It said it would continue to work with the FDA to develop a market for the two pain relievers.
The company said it will work with the FDA to develop the drug's generic versions of Celebrex, as well as the generic version of Zoloft, to meet the same set of needs as its branded version. It is expected that a generic version of Celebrex will be developed by Pfizer.
